Committee Composition

The IBC meets the requirements for membership as defined in Section IV-B-2-a of the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules and is comprised of no fewer than 5 members including, at minimum, two public members, a biosafety officer, an animal expert, a plant expert, an infectious disease expert and scientific members.

When does the IBC convene?

Both the IBC and SA-IBC have regularly scheduled monthly meetings. Additional special meetings are called as necessary. These meetings are open to members of the IBC, staff of the IBC Office and Office of Research Safety and individuals who have received permission from the Committee Chair. All Committee meetings are scheduled for the first Friday of each month, however, this is subject to change based on holidays. Please note that the meeting agenda closes on the Friday preceding the meeting. It is recommended to submit any amendments, resubmissions or new submissions at least 5 weeks prior to the intended meeting date to allow sufficient time for administrative, biosafety and IBC Member review ahead of the meeting.
